�Counseling may also include clients who seek individual counseling assistance but are grouped for counseling sessions with others in like circumstances.� (2002 SBA Program Announcement, page A-1.) Because group consulting is difficult to distinguish from training and has numerous problems with the integrity of counting consulting hours, its use within the Hawai`i SBDC Network is strongly circumscribed. In order to do group counseling as a counted activity, the consultant must first obtain the written approval of the associate state director or state director, who will if the activity is approved, state in the response what the guidelines will be for counting the activity. This is to be documented in the file.
